A prime suspect has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 13 people in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victims, all said to be indigenes of Ebonyi State, were reportedly attacked on June 30 while attending a monthly general meeting of the Abakaliki community. Gunmen stormed the gathering in two SUVs and opened fire, killing several individuals on the spot.
Security sources confirmed that a joint taskforce, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Sunday Mbamu — a native of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, who resides in Ogboji. He is believed to be the mastermind behind the attack.
Police authorities said Mbamu is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. He is said to have made “useful statements” that are aiding the ongoing investigation.
Security operatives have assured the public that more arrests will follow as efforts to track down the remaining assailants continue.
