Tincan Customs Records Revenue Milestone with ₦747bn in First Half of 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Port Command, has recorded a historic revenue milestone, generating a total of ₦747,079,233,259.91 in the first half of 2025.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, 3 July 2025, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Oscar Ivara, the figure marks a 29.85% increase compared to the ₦575.36 billion collected in 2024.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, noted that the Command achieved 98.03% of its projected revenue target for the period.

The statement highlighted steady month-on-month growth, with ₦116.41 billion collected in January, ₦103.25 billion in February, and ₦128.26 billion, ₦145.02 billion, and ₦128.45 billion recorded in March, April, and May, respectively. In June, the Command raked in ₦125.68 billion—significantly higher than the ₦83.19 billion collected in June 2024.

The Command also reported receiving 3,450 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) under the newly introduced B’Odogwu clearance system, with 2,749 entries successfully processed and exited.

“To support the rollout, several training sessions and workshops, both virtual and physical, have been conducted to equip stakeholders with practical knowledge of the new clearance process.” He said.

Beyond revenue generation, the Command recorded major anti-smuggling breakthroughs, including the seizure of illicit drugs valued at over ₦8.05 billion, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

“This feat was achieved through the timely interception of two 20-foot containers found to contain 128 packets of cannabis indica, 97 packets of crystal methamphetamine, and 1,735 packets of cannabis indica, with a combined weight exceeding 1,000 kilograms,” the statement read.

In another operation, the Command intercepted arms and ammunition concealed in a 40-foot container transporting four used vehicles. The consignment—which included pistols, live and blank ammunition, handcuffs, and tactical gear—was handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), along with the consignee and declarant.

In a heartfelt commendation, Comptroller Onyeka praised the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, on his recent election as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.

He described the CGC’s election victory as a “divinely inspired success” and commended his unwavering support for the Command.

He also expressed appreciation to Customs partners and stakeholders operating within the port and urged officers to remain courageous and professional in the discharge of their duties.
