The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has nominated a former National President and the Olosi of Osi-Ekiti, Oba Stephen Adegboyega Alabi, for its National Diamond Jubilee Award.
The award is among activities lined up by the association to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee (60 years) of the association.
The association in a statement jointly signed by its President and General Secretary, Isaiah Benjamin and Ikenna Okonkwo respectively on Wednesday, said that Oba Alabi’s leadership qualities, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment have been the bedrock of SWAN’s success over the years.
The association described the royal father, who also doubles as Emeritus President, as a respected legal luminary, Scholar and respected traditional ruler, who had used his God given resources, influence, wisdom and knowledge to elevate sports journalism in Nigeria.
It noted that the traditional ruler’s tireless efforts have not only elevated the standard of sports reporting in Nigeria, but had also inspired generations of sports writers to strive for excellence.
“As we gather to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee (60 years) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), it is with immense pleasure that we pay tribute to your invaluable contributions to the growth and development of our beloved association.
“Today and always, we honour your selfless service, vision, and dedication to the noble profession of sports journalism.
“As our dear president, you joined to set the tone for effective leadership, fostering a sense of camaraderie, and promoting the interests of sports writers across the country. Your legacies continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for greatness.
“In recognition of your outstanding contributions, we are pleased to confer SWAN National Diamond Jubilee Award (SWAN Merit Award) on you.
“This honour is a testament to your enduring impact on SWAN and the sports journalism fraternity,”the statement noted.
The conferment is scheduled to hold on Friday Oct.31 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
