Political atmosphere in Ekiti state is beginning to heat up as the Independent National Electoral Commission release timetable for the stateโ€™s governorship election

On Wednesday, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, released timetable for Osun and Ekiti governorship for 18th of June 2022 and 18thย  of ย June 2020 respectively

Reacting to this development, The Progressive Congress (APC) says it will do everything possible within its means to retain power following impressive performance of the incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi’s led administration while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is confident of unseating the ruling party

The APC Caretaker Publicity Secretary, Ade Ajayi, says with the laudable projects of the Governor Fayemiโ€™s led administration, Ekiti people will continue to vote for the ruling part in order to sustain the process and not allowing setbacks

โ€œLet me state it clearly, we are focused and prepared for the tasks ahead to win the poll. APC is united in Ekiti State under the leadership of Governor Kayode Fayemi, he addedโ€

On the other hand, the Peopleโ€™s Democratic Party State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is strongly determined to take over the mantle of leadership of the State from the All-Progressive Congress (APC).

โ€œAPC government had failed and denied Ekiti people of dividends of democracy which they promised to do in 2018โ€.

Adeyanju further said the ruling party should be prepared to hand over power to PDP next year

โ€œWe know Ekiti will reject a party that has failed them with empty promises. A party that canโ€™t fix their roads, that canโ€™t provide employments for youths, that canโ€™t effect promotions for workers canโ€™t continue to rule us. So, we are well prepared.โ€

Irrespective of who emerge as PDP gubernatorial candidate, he assured there wonโ€™t be internal crises as to what happened in 2018 which affected the party leading to the handing over of power to the ruling party.

โ€œFormer Governors Ayodele Fayose and Segun Oni as well as Senator Biodun Olujimi and other leaders are united. We all have our eyes fixed on that governorship seat and we are confident that our victory is sacrosanctโ€.

Declaration of Interests by candidates has submerged in the two main political parties. In PDP, Former Governor Segun Oni from Ifaki-Ekiti (Ekiti North), Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, Immediate past Deputy Governor from Ikere-Ekiti (Ekiti South), Kayode Adaramodu from Ilawe-Ekiti (Ekiti South) and Hon. Bisi Kolawole from Efon-Ekiti (Ekiti Central), endorsed by former Governor Fayose has shown interest in PDP while Hon. Olufemi Bamisile from Omuo-Ekiti (Ekiti South) is the only Candidate who has shown interest in the All-Progressive Congress (APC).
